AJK lifts suspension on mining leases after nearly two years
SIFC-facilitated decision revives leasing process to boost mineral investment and exploration activity

The government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has resumed the issuance of mining leases after a suspension lasting almost two years, following facilitation by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), according to an official statement issued on Monday.
The issuance of mining leases had remained suspended since March 2024. The issue was taken up at the SIFC forum in July 2025, which eventually led to the lifting of restrictions and restoration of the leasing process.
With the suspension removed, AJK authorities have restarted the process for granting new mining leases across the region.
Officials said the decision is expected to unlock investment opportunities in the mineral sector, accelerate exploration activity, and support broader economic growth through renewed development initiatives.
The statement added that the move will help improve the investment climate in the region and encourage greater participation in mining-related ventures.
