PM forms seven-member committee for budget 2026-27 recommendations

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has constituted a seven-member special committee headed by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb to prepare recommendations for the federal budget 2026-27.

The panel includes the Minister for Economic Affairs, Minister for Planning, Minister for Law, Chief Technical Adviser Musharraf Rasul and the Additional Secretary Finance.

According to officials, the committee will review all matters related to the upcoming budget and submit final recommendations to the prime minister for approval.

Officials said the committee would also assess the performance and financial requirements of major ministries, including Commerce, Power, Privatisation and IT, as part of the budget preparation process.

Its findings will help formulate proposals for the Public Sector Development Programme.

The committee has additionally been tasked with reviewing ongoing legal cases involving the Power Division in international courts and proposing a financial framework for legal representation abroad.

According to the terms of reference, the panel will also evaluate climate support levies aimed at financing green startups and review implementation reports related to the government’s rightsizing policy across ministries.

The committee is expected to present its recommendations in the coming weeks ahead of finalisation of the budget for FY2026-27.
