Pakistan’s IT exports rise 13% to $373 million in May, taking 11-month total to $4.2 billion

Pakistan’s information technology exports increased 13% year-on-year to $373 million in May 2026, taking cumulative export proceeds during the first 11 months of the fiscal year to $4.2 billion, according to data compiled by Topline Securities.

Exports during July-May 2025-26 were 21% higher than in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.

Despite the annual increase, monthly information technology exports declined 12% from $423 million recorded in April 2026. Topline attributed the month-on-month fall to a lower number of working days because of Eid holidays.

Net information technology exports, calculated after deducting imports from exports, stood at $314 million in May, representing an increase of 7% over the corresponding month of the previous year.

The latest monthly figure was also higher than the $329 million recorded in May 2025.

The sector’s export performance has fluctuated during the past year. Exports increased to $338 million in June 2025 and $354 million in July before declining to $337 million in August.

They subsequently rose to $366 million in September and $386 million in October, before falling to $356 million in November.

Monthly information technology exports reached $437 million in December 2025, the highest level shown in the 13-month period covered by the Topline Securities chart.

Exports then declined to $374 million in January 2026 and $365 million in February before recovering to $413 million in March and $423 million in April.

The May figure of $373 million marked a slowdown from the preceding two months but maintained double-digit growth compared with the same month last year.

The government has projected information technology exports to increase 18% year-on-year to $4.5 billion during the fiscal year ending June 2026.

Pakistan has also set a target of raising annual information technology exports to $10 billion by the fiscal year 2028-29 under the Uraan Pakistan national economic plan.

According to Topline Securities, reaching the $10 billion target would require a compound annual growth rate of about 27% through 2028-29.

The targets form part of the government’s plans to expand technology-based services exports and increase foreign exchange earnings from the sector.
