Pakistan can expand mango exports to China through quality, branding improvements: PCJCCI

Pakistan has significant scope to increase mango exports to China, but doing so will require stronger quality controls, improved packaging, better branding and more efficient supply chains, according to Adeel Munawar, Commercial Ambassador of the Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI).

He said Pakistan currently accounts for only a limited share of China's mango imports despite being known globally for producing premium-quality mango varieties, describing the gap as a major opportunity for local exporters.

China remains one of the largest and most promising markets for Pakistani mangoes, Munawar said, noting that rising demand for high-quality fruit among Chinese consumers is creating favourable conditions for export growth.

He said Pakistani mangoes are internationally recognised for their distinctive taste, aroma and quality, but exporters must align more closely with changing consumer preferences in the Chinese market to secure a larger share of demand.

According to Munawar, Chinese consumers are increasingly placing greater emphasis on quality than price and are willing to pay a premium for superior agricultural products. To capitalise on this trend, he called for wider adoption of modern cultivation methods, improved post-harvest management and compliance with international certification standards.

He also stressed the need for strategic marketing initiatives and consistent quality assurance measures to strengthen the position of Pakistani mangoes in China.

Investment in cold-chain infrastructure, preservation technologies and modern transport systems would help maintain product quality during shipment and improve market access for exporters, he added.

Munawar said enhanced agricultural cooperation between Pakistan and China could support higher mango exports while creating additional opportunities for farmers, exporters and agribusinesses, contributing to stronger bilateral trade and sustainable economic growth.
