National Assembly passes Rs18.77 trillion Finance Bill 2026

The National Assembly on Tuesday passed the Finance Bill, 2026, for the fiscal year 2026-27 with certain amendments and the support of the government’s coalition partners.

As per media reports, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb presented the bill in the House during a budget session that witnessed protests from opposition parties.

The House accepted amendments moved by the government, while amendments proposed by opposition members were rejected.

The National Assembly session was later adjourned until 11:00 am on Wednesday.

The passage of the Finance Bill follows the presentation of the Rs18.77 trillion federal budget for 2026-27 by the finance minister on June 12, 2026.

The government has set the Federal Board of Revenue’s tax collection target at Rs15.264 trillion for 2026-27. The target is 17.6% higher than the revised revenue estimate of Rs12.983 trillion for the current fiscal year.

The higher target comes despite an estimated revenue shortfall of around Rs1 trillion in the outgoing fiscal year.

After presenting the budget, the Federal Board of Revenue released the Finance Bill 2026-27. On the same day, Aurangzeb also laid a copy of the proposed Finance Bill 2026 before the Senate.

The passage of the Finance Bill will give legal effect to taxation and revenue measures proposed in the federal budget for 2026-27.
