National Assembly approves Rs18 trillion charged expenditure under supplementary grants

The National Assembly on Wednesday approved federal charge expenditure of Rs17.901 trillion under 74 demands for regular and technical supplementary grants for FY2024-25 and FY2025-26.

According to reports, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb presented the supplementary grants in the Lower House of Parliament. The demands were approved by majority through voice vote.

The House also approved a grant of Rs4.125 billion to meet excess expenditure incurred by the Pakistan Post Office Department during FY2016-17.

For FY2025-26, the National Assembly approved supplementary grant demands of Rs12.65 trillion. These included Rs12.643 trillion for repayment of domestic debt, Rs455.984 million for election expenses and Rs2.25 billion for the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan.

For FY2024-25, the House approved supplementary grant demands of Rs2.644 trillion. These included Rs208 million for Staff Household and Allowances of the President (Personal), Rs40.350 billion for repayment of short-term foreign credits, Rs63 million for audit and Rs2.604 trillion for repayment of domestic debt.

The House also approved the excess expenditure of Rs2.088 trillion for FY2024-25.

This included Rs662.850 million for superannuation allowances and pensions, Rs1.548 billion for foreign loan repayment, Rs32.810 million for repayment of short-term foreign credits, Rs169.322 billion for servicing of domestic debt, Rs1.916 trillion for repayment of domestic debt and Rs81.522 million for the Federal Tax Ombudsman.

Separately, the National Assembly passed 35 supplementary grant demands for FY2025-26.

These included Rs4 billion for the National Disaster Management Authority, Rs7.5 billion for the Commerce Division, Rs4.25 billion for the Defence Division, Rs33.968 billion for Defence Services, Rs105.5 billion for the Power Division and Rs57.19 billion for the Federal Education and Professional Training Division.

The House also approved Rs127.411 billion under grants, subsidies and miscellaneous expenditure, Rs5 billion for the Housing and Works Division and Rs1.47 billion for the Information and Broadcasting Division.

Other approved allocations included Rs967.5 million for the Cabinet Division, Rs250 million for the National Security Division, Rs76.239 million for the Special Investment Facilitation Council Division, Rs150 million for the Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Division, Rs13.1 million for the Petroleum Division and Rs112.118 million for other expenditure of the Finance Division.

The House also approved Rs13.83 billion for miscellaneous expenditure of the Information and Broadcasting Division.
