NA approves Rs40.74 trillion charged expenditure for FY2026-27
Domestic and external debt repayments account for more than three-quarters of approved spending under constitutional provisions exempt from voting.

The National Assembly on Saturday approved charged expenditure of Rs40.742 trillion from the Federal Consolidated Fund for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2027, following a discussion on allocations presented by Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb.
The expenditure was approved under Article 82(1) of the Constitution, which allows charged expenditures to be debated in the House but exempts them from voting.
Debt-related payments constituted the largest component of the approved expenditure. The government earmarked Rs25.992 trillion for repayment of domestic debt, Rs6.983 trillion for domestic debt servicing, Rs5.836 trillion for repayment of foreign loans and Rs1.071 trillion for servicing foreign debt.
The expenditure statement also included Rs607.309 billion for external development loans and advances by the federal government and Rs130.292 billion for repayment of short-term foreign credits.
Among allocations for constitutional institutions, Rs7.969 billion was approved for the National Assembly and Rs6.453 billion for the Senate. The judiciary received allocations of Rs7.441 billion for the Supreme Court, Rs6.048 billion for the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan and Rs2.367 billion for the Islamabad High Court.
The House also approved Rs10.578 billion for election-related expenditure, Rs9.820 billion for audit services and Rs57 billion under grants, subsidies and miscellaneous expenditure.
Other allocations included Rs6.936 billion for superannuation allowances and pensions, Rs500 million for foreign missions, Rs539.407 million for the Law and Justice Division and Rs5 million for the Pakistan Post Office Department.
The charged expenditure further provided Rs963.799 million for the President's public staff and household expenses and Rs1.837 billion for personal staff and household-related expenditures.
Allocations for oversight institutions included Rs2.124 billion for the Wafaqi Mohtasib, Rs645.572 million for the Federal Tax Ombudsman and Rs258.541 million for the Federal Ombudsman Secretariat for Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplace.
According to Article 82(1) of the Constitution, expenditure charged upon the Federal Consolidated Fund may be discussed in the National Assembly but is not submitted to a vote and is deemed approved after consideration by the House.
