BYD overtakes Tesla as world’s largest battery-powered carmaker
Chinese EV maker regains lead despite 8.2% fall in deliveries, while Tesla reports 480,126 vehicle deliveries in three months to June

China’s BYD has again overtaken Tesla to become the world’s largest manufacturer of battery-powered cars, supported by stronger overseas shipments despite a year-on-year decline in overall deliveries.
The development marks another shift in the global electric vehicle market, where Chinese manufacturers are gaining wider acceptance among consumers outside their home market.
BYD’s deliveries fell 8.2% year-on-year, but its export momentum helped it regain the lead over the US carmaker.
Tesla said on Thursday that it delivered 480,126 vehicles in the three months ended June, up 25% from the same period last year.
The figures highlight the intensifying competition between BYD and Tesla as both companies seek to expand their share in the global electric vehicle market.
