BYD’s $150 million Sindh assembly plant enters final stages ahead of local vehicle launch

BYD Pakistan’s $150 million vehicle assembly plant in Gharo, Sindh, has entered the final stages of construction as the company works to launch Pakistan’s first locally assembled BYD model at the earliest.

Equipment installation and commissioning are underway at the purpose-built New Energy Vehicle facility, Business Recorder quoted Danish Khaliq, VP Sales & Strategy at BYD Pakistan as saying.

“The project continues to make strong progress, and we remain focused on bringing Pakistan’s first locally assembled BYD vehicle to market at the earliest,” Khaliq said.

Khaliq said the plant was being developed in under two years from groundbreaking, making it one of the fastest automotive manufacturing projects of its scale in Pakistan.

Before commercial production begins, the facility will undergo equipment validation, production trials and quality testing to ensure compliance with BYD’s global manufacturing standards.

Once operational, the plant will have annual production capacity of approximately 25,000 vehicles to meet growing demand for New Energy Vehicles in Pakistan.

The update follows BYD Pakistan’s receipt last week of more than 2,000 vehicles through a roll-on/roll-off vessel, its largest shipment to the country so far.

Khaliq said the consignment would support customer deliveries and maintain vehicle availability across the company’s dealer network as demand increases.

BYD entered Pakistan’s passenger vehicle market in 2024 through a strategic partnership with Mega Motor Company. The company previously said it planned to roll out its first locally assembled vehicle by July or August 2026.

The company is also expanding charging infrastructure through its partnership with HUBCO Green Private Limited.

HUBCO Green has established 19 public DC fast-charging stations across a network spanning approximately 1,300 kilometres from Karachi to Peshawar.

Khaliq said the network would be expanded to new cities, major travel routes, emerging urban centres and Tier 2 cities as New Energy Vehicle adoption grows.
