Pakistan, Chinese engineering firm discuss rail electrification, port logistics and smart transport systems

China Railway Electrification Engineering Group Co., Ltd. has expressed interest in investing in Pakistan and providing technical support for railway electrification, port logistics and smart transport infrastructure.

The interest was conveyed during a meeting in Beijing between Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry and Li Lei, Vice President of China Railway Electrification Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (EEB).

EEB’s leadership said the company was prepared to explore investment and technical collaboration opportunities and support Pakistan’s infrastructure development through engineering expertise, technology and international partnerships.

The two sides discussed potential projects involving railway electrification, port connectivity, logistics infrastructure and smart transportation systems, including initiatives aimed at strengthening regional trade under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said cooperation with major Chinese engineering companies could help Pakistan develop efficient and technology-driven transport links between its ports and inland economic corridors.

He said improved connectivity would strengthen the maritime economy, enhance trade competitiveness and support sustainable economic growth.

The minister also highlighted the government’s plans to modernise ports, promote sustainable infrastructure and attract foreign investment.

Both sides agreed to strengthen institutional coordination and identify priority projects in railway electrification, port logistics and smart transport systems.

Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry invited Li Lei to visit Pakistan to assess investment opportunities and possible infrastructure projects. Li Lei accepted the invitation and reaffirmed EEB’s interest in expanding its engagement in the country.
