Textile certification necessary to access international markets

Speaking at the information seminar organised by Hohenstein Institute Pakistan, Khawaja Muhammad Younas, Chairman of All Pakistan Bedsheet & Upholstery Manufacturers Association has said that the value-added textile sector needs to obtain Oeko-Tex certification in order to access international markets.

The event was organized to create awareness about the standards and services provided by the company.

The Ministry of Science and Technology would have to repay Rs200, 000 to Rs400, 000 as compensation, he explained. Last year, Pakistan, Bangladesh and India – the major textile exporters suffered a major setback when their Oeko-Tex certification was revoked.

Younas suggested that the value-added industry could submit their compensation claims through the upholstery association.

Some members of the body had submitted their claims, which were then directed to the ministry for payments while others should submit requests at the earliest after receiving the certification, which is mandatory for international trade, he said.

Hohenstein Institute Pakistan Country Head SM Khalid pointed out that his company has been engaged in testing and certification of textile products for the past 70 years. He added that the company could offer a range of testing services that could suit particular requirements.

He further informed that the company not only solves problems at all stages of processing and also assists with the marketing of products that have been tested by issuing certificates and labels both for the B2B sector and for the end-consumer.

He further informed that the Standard 100 Oeko-Tex was a certification system for raw, semi-finished and finished textile products at all processing levels as well as for accessories.
