Transporters call off strike after 10 days

Karachi: The transporters strike which had been ongoing for the last 10 days was finally called off on Wednesday. According to sources, this had created major hindrances for exporters who lost several customers due to this strike and had caused the return of two vessels which were on their way to Pakistan.

The president of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Shamim Ahmed Firpo was quoted as saying Pakistan lost import and export orders worth approximately Rs240 billion due to the strike.” Due to the strike, the FBR did not collect levy and customs duty on imports to the tune of Rs11b.

Karachi Port Trust (KPT) also experienced turbulence in light of this transporters strike and according to an official it had caused 10,000 containers to still be stuck in their premises. He also mentioned that between 15 and 20 ships had left without taking any cargo, because no goods had been shipped from the factories as a result of this strike.
