Oil tankers association calls off strike after successful negotiations with OGRA

Karachi: A formal announcement was made on Wednesday by All Oil Tankers Owners Association (APOTOA) of ending its strike after successful talks with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

Both sides have reached to an agreement, where OGRA has shown willingness to resolve all matters within 15 days. A committee is being constituted for this very purpose and the supply is expected to be reinstated within 10 to 12 hours, APOTOA representatives said.

Earlier, The All Pakistan Oil Tankers Owners Association (APOTOA) had announced a strike against strict action by Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) authorities and Motorway Police.

Yesterday, APOTOA Chairperson Yousaf Shahwani along with other members met Ministry Petroleum and Natural Resources secretary but could not reach an agreement.

“We will not end our strike until the government accepts our demands,” said Yousaf Shahwani while talking to Pakistan Today.

The authorities have come hard on oil tanker operators about safety measurements after Bahawalpur’s Ahmedpur Sharqia oil tanker incident.

Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had started forcing implementation of its 2009 regulations while National Highway Authorities (NHA) is checking all vehicles strictly according to its regulation passed in 2000.
