ADB to provide $140 million for KP’s road network rehabilitation

ISLAMABAD: Asian Development Bank has approved a $140 million for enhancement of provincial road network, safety and road maintenance in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

The project will also aid China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in the future, and was devised for upgradation of highway roads and refine quality of transportation in KP besides refining inter-regional and intra connectivity in trade, reported an English daily.

Under this project entitled ‘Provincial Roads Improvement Project’ over eight road sections over 214 kilometers in length will be upgraded, besides improving road-safety and giving climate resilience features to resist destruction from floods and natural disasters.

Two pilot performance based maintenance contracts will be executed for this project, which will cover 104 kilometers of provincial roads for conservation and operation of road assets.

The federal government is contributing $24 million to this project and ADB is providing $140 million. It is expected to be finished by end of 2022
