US should announce economic package for repatriation of Afghan refugees: Ahsan Iqbal

GWADAR: Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, while responding to the United States (US) said that the US should do more instead of telling Pakistan to do the same.

“It should introduce an economic package for the repatriation of three million Afghan refugees living in Pakistan,” the minister said while responding to a query related to US’s fresh demands of doing more.

Talking to a group of journalists during a visit to China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects in Gwadar, he said Pakistan cannot guarantee that every Afghan national living in the country is not a miscreant. “With three million refugees living in Pakistan, you can never be 100 per cent sure who is living in their settlements. If Washington wants to be a 100 per cent sure that there are no miscreants living in Pakistan, it must help in repatriating the three million refugees.”

“Our country has the most to lose because of Afghanistan’s instability. We have an open border with Afghanistan which has been a source of destabilization of Pakistan.  Therefore, we are committed to working with the international community to bring about normalcy in Afghanistan so that the refugees can return to their homeland,” Iqbal further explained.

Talking about conspiracies against CPEC, he said international conspiracies are being hatched to make the project unsuccessful and added that, “We need not to worry about the apparent US, Israel and Indian alliance. The visit of Israeli Prime Minister to India has also cleared many doubts,”

“Conspiracy against CPEC and Pakistan was confirmed when the Indian spy agent was arrested in Pakistan,” he further stated.

Iqbal also stressed the need to avoid internal differences and disturbances in order to fight external conspiracies.
