Punjab expresses worry over major water losses from Taunsa to Kotri barrage

ISLAMABAD: Punjab has shown worry over major water losses from Taunsa to Kotri barrage which was projected at roughly one million acres feet (MAF).
This was stated by the Irsa spokesman Khalid Idrees Rana after the conclusion of the emergency meeting on Tuesday, reported Dawn.
The water authority has setup a regulations director led-committee constituting of directors from Sindh and Punjab to determine discharges at Guddu barrage and the various barrage of Pakistan and provide a report in this regard to IRSA.
According to all five members of Irsa from the provinces and the centre stressed the significance of building new dams on a priority basis as a way of improving water regulation through better utilization of surplus flows.
Following a complaint filed by Balochistan regarding water shortage in the province, the Sindh government called for taking immediate measures to help Balochistan overcome shortages since both Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) were except of water shortage.
Taking the current rainy spell into consideration, Irsa raised Punjab’s water share from 56,000 cusecs to 64,000 cusecs whereas Sindh’s was increased to 55,000 cusecs from 43,000 cusecs.
KP’s share was set at 3,100 cusecs and Balochistan’s at 5,000 cusecs.
