ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has allowed the filing of income tax returns until Monday (Dec 17) owing to the weekend failing on December 15, the previously-announced deadline for filing of returns, said a statement issued by the FBR on Saturday.
The statement issued by the FBR spokesperson stated that a number of queries have been received with regard to an extension of the last date of filing of returns, but the return filing date would not be extended any further. However, since the last date of filing of return falls on a non-working day, hence, as per General Clauses Act, the closing date for filing of income tax returns is automatically extended to next working day i.e. Monday, the 17th of December.
He said the tax offices would be extending help in the filing of returns on Monday till the close of office hours, while the returns will be received electronically by 12am on Tuesday.
Moreover, he said, the commissioners are also authorized to grant an extension for a period up to 15 days on a case-to-case basis. Although the receipt of return would not be blocked after the due date, yet, as per existing law, the names of persons who fail to file returns by the closing date (or by the date extended by the commissioners) would not be put on the active taxpayers’ list, he added.
Good news for tax payers…..
Good method of the Government.
