Recruitment of new trade officers on the cards

The Ministry of Commerce has decided to conduct interviews for the recruitment of new trade officers in foreign countries.

According to a private media house, progress is being made on the appointment of 43 trade officers in foreign countries by the commerce ministry.

Sources said the ministry took the decision to conduct interviews of 80 successful candidates from September 16 to 18 as the Balochistan High Court (BHC) has permitted the government to continue with the recruitment process.

As per the officials, the ministry would make all-out efforts to finalise the appointments of new trade officers till September 30. They added that the process was stopped due to a stay order by the BHC.

It may be noted that Prime Minister Imran Khan had given deadline to complete the appointment process of the trade officers in foreign countries till August 30.

Earlier in July, the Ministry of Commerce had issued a notification for the promotion and transfer of officers.

Syed Rafi Basheer Shah of Commerce & Trade Group was promoted to Grade-21 officer and was appointed as the director general (DG) of the Directorate General of Trade Organisations.

Dr Nazir Lateef was posted as DG of the Pakistan Institute of Trade and Development. He previously served as the joint secretary of the commerce ministry.
