Direct flights between Azerbaijan and Pakistan to start next year: Ambassador

PESHAWAR: Direct flights between Azerbaijan and Pakistan would start next year, which would help strengthen bilateral trade and economic relations as well as people-to-people contacts between the two countries, said Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan Ali Alizada.

“Investors in Azerbaijan are keen to invest in potential sectors of Pakistan,” he said while talking to the business community at the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Thursday.

The ambassador pointed out that Azerbaijan attached immense importance to improvement in trade, economic and cultural relations with Pakistan.

The diplomat termed his country a lucrative destination for foreign investors and urged the business community of Pakistan to invest in information technology, software engineering, tourism and other potential sectors of Azerbaijan.

The meeting discussed investment opportunities in diverse sectors and possibilities of enhancing cooperation, launching joint ventures, exchange of business delegations and establishment of people-to-people contacts between the two countries.

Alizada highlighted that his country had supported Pakistan’s stance on the Kashmir issue. The core issue of Kashmir should be resolved as per UN resolutions ie to give the people of Kashmir the right of self-determination, he stressed.

Speaking on the occasion, Sarhad Chamber President Maqsood Anwar invited investment from Azerbaijan in hydroelectric power generation, oil and gas, liquefied petroleum gas, mines and mineral, gemstones and other potential sectors.

He also emphasised the need for deepening economic and trade relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan. Both sides agreed to make joint efforts to give a boost to bilateral trade and economic ties.

Former Sarhad Chamber president Faiz Mohammad Faizi and other members of the business community gave a number of recommendations for improving trade and economic links between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

Alizada agreed with some of the recommendations and assured the business community that his country would issue visas to them on a priority basis in a bid to enhance trade and economic ties.
