Govt’s tourism initiatives leading to socio-economic uplift of rural areas: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has said that various initiatives taken by the government for promoting tourism were playing a crucial role in the development of rural areas.

“Several new tourist destinations have been explored in rural areas which is expected to uplift the local population’s economic and social status,” he said in a message on the observance of ‘World Tourism Day’ here on Sunday.

He said that the nation was celebrating the day as a country that hosts some of the world’s most kook vistas and fascinating cultures.

On this year’s theme ‘Tourism and Rural Development’,  the prime minister said that the tourism sector provides impetus to the economic development in rural areas which are in dire need of economic activity for their betterment. “Tourism not only helps in the empowerment of rural communities by generating employment and boosting trade but also enables them to protect their heritage and allow other people to experience their incredible cultures and traditions,” he said.

He further said that the government’s efforts of placing rural development at the heart of tourism policies through education, investment, innovation, technology and employment transformed the livelihoods of millions in the country.

The prime minister said he would like to inform the international community that the people of Pakistan were waiting for tourists from around the globe.

“Pakistan has diverse landscapes from mountains to sea along with a dynamic history. Pakistan has limitless potential for tourism which the world has yet to discover. We would extend our hospitality to whoever visits our mountains, deserts, rivers, forests, and coasts,” he said.
