Pakistan holds talks with Netflix, other streaming platforms to expand space for local content
Ahsan Iqbal says government is seeking partnerships for Pakistani creators and also plans a domestic OTT platform

Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal said Pakistan was in discussions with Netflix and other global streaming platforms to secure greater space for local content and create long-term partnership opportunities for Pakistani creators.
In a post on X, the minister said Pakistani dramas and films had strong international demand and should play a larger role in the country’s export strategy.
He said the creative and cultural industry was a key part of the government’s Uraan Pakistan export agenda.
Iqbal said major over-the-top platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime were important gateways to global audiences, but Pakistani content had not received adequate regional representation.
He added that the government was seeking changes to the regional framework used by global streaming companies to improve access for Pakistani productions.
The minister said the government’s objective was not limited to securing more space on foreign platforms. It was also working towards developing an independent Pakistani OTT platform to promote local stories internationally.
