ECC approves concessionary package for industrial sector

ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet on Monday approved a concessionary package for the industrial sector.

The ECC meeting, held under the chair of Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, considered the summary of the Ministry of Energy with regard to electricity rates for the industrial sector.

Sources said the ministry had proposed to increase the rates of electricity for industry, however, the meeting rejected the proposal. On the other hand, the ECC gave approval to give concession to the industrial sector on using additional electricity.

Sources said that the government was considering further reducing rates from Rs12.96 for the industry. A final decision in this regard would be taken by PM Imran in the upcoming meeting of federal cabinet, scheduled to be held on Tuesday.
