November 4, 2020

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plans to operate international flights and increase the frequency of domestic flights to and from Gwadar upon competition of the Gwadar International Airport.
In addition to the statement on increasing flights to and from Gwadar during his visit to Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry, PIA CEO Air Marshal Arshad Malik also responded to the RCCI's request for direct flights from Islamabad to Gwadar, USA and Europe and to increase the frequency of flights to Afghanistan.
The CEO assured the businessmen that the national airline would look into the feasibility of their requests.
Presently, due to the lack of proper refueling facilities and shorter runway, the Karachi airport is used as a replacement for Gwadar.
With regards to flights to Europe and USA, the Air Marshall reminded the business community that the flights were subject to the removal of restrictions imposed. He added that PIA has addressed all formalities and is awaiting approval.
RCCI President Muhammad Nassir Mirza assured the PIA CEO of their support in travel as well as cargo business, while the Malik has directed PIA officials to devise a business package for the chamber members. A MoU for this will be signed once confirmed.
Malik also reiterated that the airline does not plan on selling Roosevelt Hotel.
