Ministry of Finance proposes six names for position of Governor SBP

ISLAMABAD: Finance Ministry has sent six names to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat for the appointment of State Bank Governor, it has been learnt on Monday.

Sources said that Ministry of Finance has proposed six names included Zafar Masud, Acting Governor State Bank Murtaza Syed, Deputy Governor State Bank Muhammad Jameel, former deputy Governor State Bank Muhammad Ashraf Khan and DMG officer Saeed Ahmed.

The federal cabinet is likely to approve the summary of the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday.

Presently, Deputy Governor Dr. Murtaza Syed is working as acting Governor State Bank since May 6, 2022.

Sources said that Zafar Masud is favorite for this position.

Meanwhile, DMG group officer Dr. Saeed Ahmed is currently posted as Pakistan’s senior adviser to the Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington.

Similarly, Dr. Murtaza Syed is also in the list and former Governor SBP Raza Baqir brought the acting Governor SBP from IMF.

Sources said that Muhammad Jameel is working as division head SBP whereas former Deputy Governor SBP Ashraf Khan is also among the candidates of SBP Governor slot.

It is pertinent to note that Finance Minister Miftah Ismail told the media last week that Governor SBP will be appointed in a week’s time.
