PRL inks agreements with Honeywell UOP, Axens to double refining capacity

Pakistan Refinery Limited (PSX: PRL) has signed key license agreements with global industry leaders Honeywell UOP and Axens for its Refinery Expansion and Upgrade Project (REUP), the company said in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Tuesday.

The project aims to double PRL's refining capacity from 50kbpd to 100kbpd and transition from hydro skimming to a deep conversion refinery, facilitating the production of value-added products and EURO V-compliant fuels, considered more environmentally friendly than traditional automotive fuels.

PRL has chosen cutting-edge process technologies from Honeywell UOP for bottom-of-the-barrel conversion technology and naphtha processing, including the Residue Fluidized Catalytic Cracking Process, LPG Merox process, and a Naphtha complex.

Axens will supply Prime G+®, Prime D™, and Polynaphtham™ to achieve Euro V gasoline and diesel specifications.

The collaboration is expected to modernize PRL's refining capabilities and contribute to sustainable energy solutions, as stated in the company notice.

Zahid Mir, Managing Director and CEO of PRL, stated that this partnership is a significant milestone in the company's journey toward refinery modernisation. He emphasized the commitment to advanced technologies for sustainable and efficient operations, stating that these collaborations will play a crucial role in shaping Pakistan's energy future.

Mir noted that the initiative reflects PRL's proactive role in creating a future where innovation aligns with environmental responsibility, laying the groundwork for a more sustainable and energy-efficient Pakistan.
