ISLAMABAD: Indus Motor Company (IMC) on Wednesday revealed its inaugural locally-assembled Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), the Toyota Corolla Cross, at the 7th Journalist Summit in Bhurban.

The event, attended by the leading journalists of the automotive industry, witnessed the unveiling of this vehicle in the presence of Chief Engineer Yasushi Ueda from Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC).

Boasting a 1.8L Hybrid Electric Engine, Multi Drive Modes, advanced safety features like 7 SRS Airbags, Blind Spot Monitor, Clearance Sonars, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, a 9-inch Floating Display, and Bi-Beam LED Headlamps, the Corolla Cross promises comfort, convenience, and safety for customers, as emphasized by Mr. Ueda. The car was launched at an introductory price range of PKR 9,399,000 for the Mid-Level category and PKR 9,849,000 for the high-end category.

Mr. Ueda highlighted the vehicle’s outstanding features, citing the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) as a driving force behind its enhanced platform and modern styling, ensuring a comfortable and luxurious driving experience.

On this occasion, the CEO Mr. Ali Asghar Jamali passionately articulated the Corolla Cross’s pivotal role in reshaping Pakistan’s automotive landscape. He emphasized its game-changing attributes, highlighting a 50% increase in fuel efficiency, reducing both costs and its dependency on imported fuel.

Acknowledging the vehicle’s environmental impact, Mr. Jamali underscored the Corolla Cross’s 35% reduction in emissions, aligning with Toyota’s commitment to a greener Pakistan. He emphasized the significance of offering a hybrid electric option that contributes substantially to a cleaner environment.

Exploring the challenges in introducing Battery Electric Vehicles (fully electric cars) in Pakistan he said that due to the country’s reliance on non-renewable energy sources, the HEV technology is the most practical. He lauded the HEV for its low maintenance costs, reliable batteries, and excellent resale value.

He showcased Pakistan’s unwavering love for Corolla, since its arrival in 1993, by stating Pakistan’s consistent position as the top country in the Asia Region for Corolla sales, maintaining this status for 13 out of the past 17 years.

According to him, the Corolla Cross, blending modernity and luxury, embodies the essence of the Corolla brand, presenting itself as a strong contender in the market, offering power, efficiency, and a sense of pride with every purchase, according to Mr. Jamali.

Earlier this month, the Indus Motor Company, inaugurated its hybrid vehicle assembly line after a delay of more than a year.
