China and Pakistan expand agricultural collaboration with new projects under CPEC

Fourth Joint Working Group meeting approves second batch of initiatives and launches Agricultural Technology Working Group

Senior officials from China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Pakistan’s Ministry of National Food Security and Research co-chaired the fourth meeting of the China-Pakistan Joint Working Group on Agriculture in Beijing. As reported by PTV.

The session reviewed the outcomes of the initial set of agricultural projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), greenlit a new wave of proposed initiatives, and announced the formation of the China-Pakistan Agricultural Technology Working Group to further deepen cooperation.

According to China Economic Net (CEN), both countries agreed to establish joint laboratories and are set to formalize tropical agriculture cooperation through an upcoming Memorandum of Understanding. Discussions also highlighted expanding partnerships in fisheries, agricultural mechanization, and related sectors.

Roughly 60 participants — including representatives from government agencies, research institutions, enterprises, and embassies — attended the event both virtually and in person.

Notable successes from the first phase include Sichuan Litong’s chili pepper cultivation demonstration base and Guangxi Royal Dairy’s China-Pakistan buffalo breeding and dairy processing project, both praised as flagship models by officials from both sides.

Building on this momentum, four additional organizations — Qingfa Hesheng of Wuhan, Jinghua Seed Industry of Xinjiang, Runber of Shandong, and the Crop Science Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences — have been selected to lead the second phase of agricultural collaboration under CPEC. In comments following the meeting, company representatives expressed enthusiasm about advancing “small yet refined” model projects.

These joint initiatives are expected to inject new energy into the second phase of CPEC’s high-quality development and further solidify the vision of a China-Pakistan community with a shared future.
