Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Tuesday briefed a visiting British delegation on Pakistan’s economic reform programme, fiscal priorities and macroeconomic outlook during talks with UK Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan (MENAP), Hamish Falconer MP.
The meeting, held at the Finance Division, reviewed Pakistan’s Budget 2026-27 priorities, ongoing fiscal and structural reforms, and opportunities to further expand economic cooperation between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance.
Aurangzeb outlined the government's efforts to maintain macroeconomic stability through higher revenue mobilisation, improved tax compliance, digitalisation of tax administration, greater transparency and institutional modernisation aimed at supporting sustainable and inclusive growth.
The finance minister also discussed recent regional developments, including the easing of tensions following the understanding reached between the United States and Iran. He said regional stability was critical for economic confidence, energy markets, global supply chains and growth prospects, particularly for emerging economies.
He further noted that Pakistan’s economic planning and fiscal framework continued to account for external and geopolitical risks, adding that a more stable regional environment would strengthen prospects for investment, trade and long-term economic resilience.
Falconer welcomed Pakistan’s reform agenda and acknowledged its scope and seriousness, while stressing the importance of sustained implementation, institutional strengthening and improved competitiveness.
The British minister also reiterated the United Kingdom’s interest in deepening engagement with Pakistan in areas of mutual economic cooperation.
British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott and senior officials from both sides attended the meeting.
According to the Finance Ministry, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and continuing cooperation in support of economic stability, reform efforts and regional peace.
