OpenAI reported 500 million weekly active users by March’s end, reflecting widespread use of its ChatGPT models.
The company’s annualized revenue run rate reached $10 billion in June, up from $5.5 billion in December 2024, showing growth driven by rising AI adoption. OpenAI is on track to meet its 2025 revenue target of $12.7 billion, shared with investors earlier.
The $10 billion figure excludes licensing revenue from Microsoft and large one-time deals, an OpenAI spokesperson said.
Despite a $5 billion loss last year, OpenAI’s revenue growth outpaces competitors like Anthropic, which hit $3 billion in annualized revenue from demand by code-gen startups. In March, OpenAI announced plans to raise up to $40 billion in a funding round led by SoftBank Group, valuing the company at $300 billion.
Since launching ChatGPT over two years ago, OpenAI has introduced subscription offerings for consumers and businesses.
