Musk says some of his posts went too far in criticizing Trump

Tesla shares in Frankfurt rise 2.7% after Musk's statement

Elon Musk said on Wednesday he regrets some of his recent posts about U.S. President Donald Trump, which he admitted “went too far.”

“I regret some of my posts about President Donald Trump last week. They went too far,” Musk wrote on his social media platform X, without saying which specific posts he meant.

Musk had called Trump’s tax and spending bill a “disgusting abomination” last week and posted support for the president’s impeachment, but he later deleted several of those messages.

Tesla shares in Frankfurt rose 2.7% after Musk’s statement.

Trump responded on Saturday by saying his relationship with Musk was over after their exchange of insults online.

“There would be serious consequences” if Musk supported Democrats against Republicans backing the bill, Trump warned.

Musk helped fund Trump’s 2024 campaign with nearly $300 million and played a major role in helping Republicans secure majorities in both chambers of Congress.

Trump later appointed Musk to lead efforts to reduce the federal workforce and cut spending. Musk left that role late last month after criticizing the tax measure, saying it would harm his work at the Department of Government Efficiency.

On Monday, Trump said, “We had a good relationship, and I just wish him well,” and added that he had no issue if Musk called him.

He also said he would not stop the use of Starlink internet at the White House but might move his Tesla off-site.

Musk responded with a heart emoji to a video of Trump’s comments posted on X.
