Snap says it will launch its first smart glasses for consumers in 2026, expanding its push into augmented reality.
The product, named Specs, will be lightweight and available beyond developers for the first time.
The company made the announcement at the Augmented World Expo 2025, where CEO Evan Spiegel said Snap has invested over $3 billion in AR glasses over the past 11 years. Snap’s earlier Spectacles models, including its fifth generation launched last September, were limited to developers.
Snap also said it will work with Niantic Spatial, a platform for augmented reality and geospatial technology, to improve Lens Studio. Lens Studio is used by creators to make and publish AR lenses for use in Snapchat’s camera and the new Specs.
Snap is known for its Snapchat app and digital filters and is expanding into AR wearables to find new revenue sources amid an uncertain ad market.
Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, developed with EssilorLuxottica, have drawn attention in the space. Meta continues to add AI tools to its glasses to grow its user base.
Companies including Google are also exploring similar devices.
