The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the deadline for submitting tax returns. In a statement issued on Friday, RCCI President Usman Shaukat highlighted ongoing issues with the FBR’s online system (Iris), which has slowed down due to high filing traffic.
Shaukat also pointed out the added difficulties caused by the closure of banks and other relevant institutions on weekends, making it harder for taxpayers to obtain necessary documents and process bank-related requirements. “System glitches and complaints of slowness are continuously being reported by members and traders,” he said.
He further noted that recent flash floods and heavy monsoon rains have disrupted internet and telecom services in several regions, exacerbating the challenges for filers who rely on online platforms. Shaukat reminded the FBR that similar extensions had been granted in the past under similar circumstances.
“Providing relief at this juncture would not only facilitate taxpayers but also encourage compliance, support economic documentation, and strengthen revenue collection,” he added.
