Federal Railways Minister urges adoption of digital and precision technologies to strengthen Pakistan’s agriculture and food security.

Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi has emphasized that Pakistan’s progress hinges on the strength of its agriculture sector, urging collective and sustained efforts to modernize farming through innovation and technology.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the Second International Precision Agriculture Conference at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University (PMAS-AAUR) Rawalpindi as the chief guest, Abbasi said that reforming the sector through modern agricultural technologies and innovative techniques is essential for national growth and food security.

Highlighting the need to boost agricultural exports, the minister said Pakistan must enhance food production efficiency and align itself with global advancements. “As the world rapidly integrates technology, we as a nation must use our resources and expertise to adopt digitalization and modern agricultural objectives,” he remarked.

Abbasi also appreciated the contributions of international experts and scholars, noting that their ideas and shared experiences would help transform Pakistan’s agriculture along contemporary lines.

The three-day conference, organized by the university’s Center for Precision Agriculture under the theme “Transforming Agriculture through Digital Innovations”, was conducted in both physical and online formats. Renowned international speakers joined in person and virtually, presenting research papers across eight technical sessions.

In his address, PMAS-AAUR Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Qamar uz Zaman said that agriculture is entering an era of automation, artificial intelligence, and precision farming. He stressed that integrating traditional farming with modern techniques could reduce production costs, optimize fertilizer use, save water, and significantly improve crop yields while minimizing environmental damage.

The conference also hosted an Agricultural Expo, IT Exhibition, Bird Show, Food Festival, Art and Craft Exhibition, and Poster Competition. At the conclusion of the event, shields and souvenirs were distributed among distinguished guests, participants, and attendees.

The final day of the conference will feature a Farmers’ Fair at the university’s research farm. Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) Ms. Asma Naz Abbasi was also present at the event.
