KMC to establish EV charging stations across Karachi to curb emissions

First phase to cover Shahrah-e-Faisal, Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road, and Stadium Road

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has announced plans to set up electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the city to promote environmentally friendly transport and cut carbon emissions.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting held at the KMC Head Office, chaired by Mayor Murtaza Wahab, who directed departments to begin work on installing EV charging facilities in key parts of the metropolis.

In the first phase, charging stations will be established along Shahrah-e-Faisal, Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road, and Stadium Road. Mayor Wahab said the initiative reflects Karachi’s commitment to developing a greener and smarter city.

He stated that the project aims to encourage citizens to shift from conventional fuel-based vehicles to sustainable alternatives. He added that KMC would allocate land and use its own resources to set up the facilities for quick implementation.

Wahab noted that the initiative is part of a broader plan to promote sustainable mobility and environmentally responsible infrastructure in Karachi.

The meeting was attended by Financial Advisor KMC Gulzar Abro, Director Media KMC Daniyal Alishan, Deputy Director Planning Musheer Mahar, and other senior officials.
