Over 200 bogus railway quarter allotments exposed in inquiry, Rs100 million bribe scandal uncovered

DG Vigilance report reveals network of corrupt officials in Pakistan Railways, Minister vows strict action

A preliminary inquiry led by Director General Vigilance, DIG North Abdul Rab Chaudhry, has uncovered a large-scale scam involving over 200 fraudulent allotments of railway quarters at Mughalpura Workshops.

According to a report by The News, the inquiry, which has been submitted to the Ministry of Railways, reveals that these allotments were made in exchange for bribes amounting to nearly Rs100 million.

The investigation identified several current and former Pakistan Railways officials—ranging from estate inspectors and assistant inspectors of works to clerical staff across the Lahore and Workshops Divisions—who are suspected of being involved in the scam.

A key suspect in the case, Adil Shehzad, a UDC, was recently arrested by Railways Police Lahore for using a forged allotment letter to illegally occupy Bungalow No. 260-B in Signal Shop Colony. Shehzad is also accused of leasing servant quarters of the bungalow to private individuals.

The inquiry revealed that corrupt officials had been fabricating fake allotment notices and G-10 forms by scanning signatures of senior officers. These fraudulent documents were kept off official records to hide the scam, leaving many deserving employees without housing.

DG Abdul Rab Chaudhry has recommended strict action against all those involved in the scheme, and a special investigation team has been formed, led by SP Lahore and SP Mughalpura Workshops, to further investigate the matter.

Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi commended the vigilance team for its thorough investigation into the fraudulent allotments. He assured that all officers and employees implicated in the scam would face legal consequences.
