Pakistan-Afghanistan trade suspended amid border security concerns

FBR says customs staff on standby to resume clearance once situation normalises

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) announced on Friday that bilateral trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan has been temporarily suspended due to security concerns at border customs stations.

According to an FBR statement, customs staff remain deployed at all stations and are ready to resume clearance operations once the borders reopen and the situation stabilises.

Before the suspension took effect, customs officials cleared 363 import vehicles at the Torkham, Ghulam Khan, Kharlachi, and Angoor Adda crossings, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Northern Region of Appraisement.

At Torkham, 23 import vehicles carrying non-perishable goods such as fabric, paint, peanuts, and pulses remain pending clearance, awaiting goods declarations from importers or clearing agents.

The FBR said 255 export vehicles are currently inside the Torkham terminal, while about 200 more are stranded along the Jamrud–Landi Kotal road. No import vehicles are pending clearance at Ghulam Khan, Kharlachi, or Angoor Adda.

At the Chaman border, customs clearance operations have been suspended since October 15, 2025. As a result, five import and 23 export vehicles remain unprocessed. Exporters have opted to keep their consignments in place until trade activities resume.

Regarding transit consignments, around 495 vehicles are awaiting border crossing at Torkham and Chaman, including 412 stranded at Chaman and 83 at Torkham.
