Aleem Khan orders suspension of member south over poor Lyari expressway work

Federal minister vows to turn Lyari Expressway into a model project; announces launch of M-6 and M-10 motorways this fiscal year to boost Sindh’s connectivity.

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the deteriorating infrastructure of Karachi, saying the city’s condition does not reflect its status as Pakistan’s economic hub.

During his visit to Karachi, the minister reviewed the progress on the Lyari Expressway and declared its ongoing work unsatisfactory. As a result, he suspended Member South with immediate effect, according to an official press release issued on Monday.

Aleem Khan pledged that the Lyari Expressway would be transformed into a model infrastructure project, assuring the people of Karachi that the federal government is determined to improve the city’s road network.

The minister also announced that development work on the M-6 Motorway (Sukkur–Hyderabad) and the M-10 Motorway (Hyderabad–Karachi Port) will begin during the current financial year. He described these upcoming projects as a gift from the Federal Government to the people of Sindh, aimed at strengthening regional connectivity.

He noted that once both motorways are completed, the Karachi Port will be directly linked to the rest of the country, significantly improving trade, logistics, and transportation efficiency.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to modernizing infrastructure across Sindh, Aleem Khan said that every project would be executed with transparency, quality, and efficiency to ensure public benefit.

The minister shared these remarks on his official X account, adding that he was in Karachi to attend the Pakistan International Maritime Expo and Conference (PIMEC 2025).
