Trump proposes $1 Billion “Board of Peace,” invites Shehbaz Sharif, Putin and other world leaders

The White House has invited Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Russia’s Vladimir Putin, Hungarian Premier Viktor Orban and Canada’s Mark Carney to join a new “Board of Peace” chaired by US President Donald Trump, according to US media reports.

The board, which began taking shape on Saturday, is intended to promote stability, restore governance and secure peace in areas affected or threatened by conflict. Member states would serve a three-year term, extendable if they contribute more than $1 billion in the first year, Bloomberg reported. Trump would retain authority to remove members or appoint his successor, subject to a two-thirds member veto.

Originally conceived to oversee the reconstruction of Gaza, the board includes a main board, a Palestinian technocrats’ committee to manage the territory, and an executive board with an advisory role. The charter does not limit the body’s mandate to Gaza.

Trump has invited key figures including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and senior negotiators Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff. Leaders from Egypt, Turkey, Argentina and Canada were also approached. Israel has objected to the executive board’s composition, which includes Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Qatari diplomat Ali Al-Thawadi.

The draft charter, widely reported in US media, takes aim at established international institutions, noting the board should “have the courage to depart from approaches and institutions that have too often failed.” The move echoes Trump’s criticism of the United Nations and his plan to withdraw from 66 global organisations and treaties.

The Kremlin confirmed that Putin received an invitation and said Russia is “seeking to clarify all the nuances” before deciding. Putin has previously praised Trump’s efforts to resolve long-standing crises and reiterated Russia’s support for the Palestinian people amid the Gaza conflict.
