Pakistan, Germany reiterate commitment to deeper economic and investment ties

Pakistan and Germany have reaffirmed the importance of sustained engagement to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and development, according to a statement issued by the Finance Division.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and Germany’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Ina Lepel, held at the Finance Division on Thursday.

During the discussion, both sides underscored the need for a stable, transparent, and predictable business environment to support long-term economic growth and enhance investor confidence. They reiterated their shared commitment to deepening economic relations and maintaining close coordination on development and investment initiatives.

Aurangzeb outlined the government’s overall economic outlook and reform priorities, highlighting the centrality of macroeconomic stability, fiscal sustainability, and competitiveness-led growth. He briefed the ambassador on ongoing efforts to support economic recovery, strengthen export capacity, and improve resilience to external shocks, while continuing structural reforms aimed at inclusive and durable development.

The meeting also covered Pakistan’s revenue and taxation reform agenda, with discussions focusing on broadening the tax base, improving compliance, and boosting efficiency through the use of technology and data-driven systems. The finance minister said the reforms were intended to promote fairness, reduce economic distortions, and ensure a level playing field that encourages investment and formal economic activity.

Both sides also exchanged views on the broader regional and global economic landscape, noting shared challenges and opportunities arising from heightened global uncertainty. They emphasized the importance of continued dialogue, policy continuity, and mutual understanding to ensure effective implementation of reforms aligned with economic growth objectives.

Reaffirming the longstanding partnership between Pakistan and Germany, the two sides expressed a shared commitment to sustaining constructive engagement in support of economic reforms, investment promotion, and mutually beneficial cooperation.
