Customs cuts valuation on imported Wi-Fi routers, networking equipment

The Directorate General of Customs Valuation Karachi has reduced customs values on the import of networking equipment, including fibre broadband Wi-Fi routers, following a review of market prices and recent import data.

The revised rates were notified through Valuation Ruling No. 2040 of 2026, issued on Thursday, and will be used for the assessment of duties and taxes on the specified goods.

According to the ruling, the directorate undertook the review after receiving representations seeking a reassessment of values fixed under an earlier ruling issued in 2024. That valuation had been based on an Appellate Tribunal judgment dated May 16, 2023, and subsequent directions to revisit the determined values.

The directorate said an exercise to redetermine customs values was initiated under Sections 25 and 25A of the Customs Act, 1969, taking into account import data, prevailing international prices, market trends and differences between declared transaction values and assessed customs values.

During consultations, importers argued that the existing values were higher than prevailing international prices and did not reflect current market conditions. They maintained that their declared transaction values were based on genuine commercial invoices and submitted supporting documentation, including invoices and packing lists.
