Kazakhstan plans to import 50,000 tonnes of Pakistani potatoes

Pakistan is set to export up to 50,000 tonnes of potatoes to Kazakhstan, officials said, opening a new market for the country’s agricultural sector.

The agreement follows talks between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the President of Kazakhstan aimed at boosting bilateral trade in agricultural commodities, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

A timeline for the export of potatoes has been agreed for April to June 2026, allowing exporters to coordinate production, storage, and logistics. Pakistani suppliers have assured Kazakh authorities that the potatoes will meet international quality standards.

Technical and commercial consultations between relevant authorities in both countries have already been completed to facilitate smooth trade operations, the ministry added.

The Ministry of Commerce said Pakistan’s potato production has sufficient export potential to meet international demand and described Kazakhstan’s interest as encouraging for farmers and the export sector.

Officials said the development comes as the government is seeking to diversify export markets and strengthen agricultural exports.
