Petroleum sales rise 10% YoY to 1.52 million tonnes in January

Sales of petroleum products in Pakistan rose to 1.52 million tonnes in January 2026, up 10% year-on-year and 12% month-on-month, supported by lower fuel prices and a recovery from disruptions caused by a nationwide strike in December, according to industry data.

During July–January FY26, cumulative oil sales reached 9.7 million tonnes, a 3% increase from 9.4 million tonnes in the same period last year. Excluding furnace oil, January sales stood at 1.41 million tonnes, up 7% year-on-year and 9% month-on-month, while ex-furnace oil volumes for the first seven months rose 5% to 9.41 million tonnes.

Fuel prices declined in January, with motor spirit averaging Rs253.17 per litre, down 4% from December, and high-speed diesel averaging Rs257.08 per litre, a 6% monthly drop. Motor spirit sales increased to 641,000 tonnes, up 3% year-on-year and 2% month-on-month, while high-speed diesel sales climbed to 664,000 tonnes, up 11% year-on-year and 20% month-on-month. Furnace oil sales surged to 102,000 tonnes, up 76% on both a year-on-year and monthly basis, marking a seven-month high.

Among listed companies, Attock Petroleum reported January sales of 134,000 tonnes, up 2% year-on-year and 31% month-on-month, driven largely by higher furnace oil volumes. Its market share stood at 9.01% for high-speed diesel and 8.39% for motor spirit.

Pakistan State Oil recorded sales of 626,000 tonnes, reflecting increases of 6% year-on-year and 17% month-on-month. The company’s market share reached 37.88% in motor spirit and 42.75% in high-speed diesel, both higher than the previous month.

Sales at Wafi Energy Pakistan rose to 122,000 tonnes, up 20% year-on-year and 17% month-on-month, while HASCOL posted 49,000 tonnes, down 3% year-on-year but up 5% month-on-month.

Analysts expect oil sales in FY26 to grow between 7% and 10%. The government has set a petroleum development levy collection target of Rs1.47 trillion for FY26, with Rs871 billion, or 59% of the target, collected in the first seven months.
