NAB investigates sugar misappropriation worth Rs960 million after TCP procurement scam
Complaint referred by Ministry of Commerce, investigation reveals loss to national exchequer

The Ministry of Commerce has filed a formal complaint with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) regarding the misappropriation of 5,356 metric tons of sugar procured by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP).
The complaint involves local sugar mill owners and has now been taken up by the Public Accounts Committee, which has referred the case to NAB for further investigation.
Following the complaint, NAB Karachi launched an inquiry into the alleged misappropriation and embezzlement of sugar, which was carried out in connivance with TCP officials. The inquiry revealed that the accused caused a loss of approximately Rs959.758 million to the national exchequer.
As the inquiry progressed, it was upgraded to a full investigation, leading to the filing of Reference No. 02/2026 in the Accountability Court, Sindh, on February 4, 2026.
Shakeel Ahmed Durrani, Director-General of NAB Karachi, praised the investigation team for their efforts and reiterated NAB’s commitment to recovering the misappropriated funds and holding those responsible accountable.
