Sindh leads with 62% of Pakistan's gas and oil production in January: report

Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) emerged as the leading contributors to Pakistan’s gas and oil production in January 2026, according to the monthly exploration report compiled by Topline Securities

Sindh dominated gas production with a 62% share, while KP accounted for 41% of the country’s crude oil output, outpacing other provinces.

The report indicated that KP’s crude oil production stood at 41% of national output, closely followed by Sindh, which contributed 40%. Meanwhile, Punjab produced 18% of the country’s oil, with Balochistan’s share being just 1%.

In terms of gas production, Sindh remained the leader with a significant 62% contribution to national output. Balochistan followed with 21%, while KP contributed 14%. Punjab's share in national gas production was minimal, standing at just 3%.

The total crude oil production in January averaged around 65,000 barrels per day (bpd), reflecting a slight decline of 1% year-on-year (YoY) and a minor 0.4% drop month-on-month (MoM). National gas production was recorded at 2,793 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd), showing a 12% YoY decline but a 7% increase compared to the previous month. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) production reached 2,012 tonnes per day, down 7% YoY and 6% MoM.

In terms of exploration, January saw one hydrocarbon discovery at the Tibri-1 exploratory well operated by UEP, in which Mari Petroleum holds a 44% working interest. The report also noted a 33% increase in exploratory well drilling month-on-month, and a 10-11% rise in seismic acquisition activity (2D and 3D). However, development well drilling declined by 15% compared to the previous month.
