The federal government has unveiled an artificial intelligence-driven monitoring platform designed to strengthen oversight of ministries, accelerate implementation of official directives and improve public service delivery as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaches the midpoint of his constitutional five-year term.
The initiative, developed under the Digital Nation Pakistan programme, introduces the Prime Minister’s Office System (PMOS), a centralised digital platform that will link federal ministries and departments directly with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for real-time monitoring and coordination.
The system was reviewed during a meeting chaired by Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Cheema, which was attended by Information Technology Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Secretary IT Zarrar Hasham Khan, Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA) Chairman Sohail Munir and senior officials from the PMO and relevant ministries.
According to an official statement issued by the Press Information Department (PID), PDA officials presented a detailed demonstration of the platform and outlined its role in improving transparency, accountability and operational efficiency across the federal government.
Under the proposed framework, directives issued by the Prime Minister’s Office will be transmitted instantly to ministries and departments through the digital platform. The system will also allow decision-makers to track the progress of assignments, projects and policy initiatives in real time.
A key feature of the PMOS is an automated alert mechanism that flags overdue tasks through pop-up notifications sent to federal secretaries and other responsible officials. The government expects the feature to strengthen follow-up procedures and improve compliance with official instructions.
Officials also briefed participants on a sovereign AI-based GPT research tool developed by the Pakistan Digital Authority. The platform is designed to support internal government research by analysing previous directives, decisions and official records, allowing officers to access institutional knowledge more quickly.
The AI tool will additionally function as a virtual assistant capable of understanding government procedures and workflows. According to the briefing, it will help officers perform and complete administrative tasks through artificial intelligence, improving productivity and efficiency within public sector institutions.
Cheema praised the PDA for developing the AI-powered system and directed relevant authorities to further refine the platform before its broader rollout to ensure ease of use and maximum effectiveness.
He said Pakistan was moving towards an AI-enabled governance framework focused on improving transparency, efficiency and service delivery. The minister added that PMOS would play an important role in implementing the National Digital Masterplan by enhancing digital integration and coordination among ministries.
The development comes amid reports of a possible federal cabinet reshuffle expected after Parliament completes the passage of the 2026-27 federal budget later this month.
Cheema said the government’s wider reform agenda also included citizen-focused digital services being delivered through platforms such as Asaan Khidmat Markaz, along with digital tax enforcement mechanisms and other technology-based governance initiatives.
He added that the expansion of digital governance tools would contribute to a more responsive, accountable and modern public sector.
The meeting concluded with officials reaffirming the government's commitment to using artificial intelligence and digital technologies to improve governance, strengthen institutional performance and enhance public service delivery.
