Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has entered into a partnership with French specialty chemicals firm SNF to implement advanced Water Injection Systems (WIS) at its Kunnar and Pasakhi oil fields in Sindh.
This collaboration is expected to generate an additional $460 million in revenue.
The agreement was signed at OGDC’s headquarters in Islamabad and was attended by Minister for Energy (Petroleum Division) Ali Pervaiz Malik, OGDC MD/CEO Ahmed Hayat Lak, and French Ambassador Nicolas Galey.
The project’s goal is to enhance reservoir pressure, improve oil and gas recovery, and ensure sustainable production through advanced water injection technology.
The project will be rolled out in three phases: a nine-month installation and commissioning period, followed by two years of operational and maintenance support, with SNF also providing training to OGDC staff. The technology transfer to OGDC is expected after this period. The system will be designed to operate for 20 years.
The initiative aims to increase oil production by 9 million barrels and gas output by 3 billion cubic feet, raising the recovery factor of the fields by 8-10%. Additionally, the reinjection of treated produced water into reservoirs supports environmental safety and aligns with sustainable industry practices.
