Pakistan prepares new auto and tractor policy to boost local production and exports

The government is set to unveil a comprehensive Auto and Tractor Policy aimed at strengthening domestic manufacturing, promoting indigenization, and expanding exports.
Haroon Akhtar Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, discussed the roadmap for Pakistan’s auto and tractor sector in a high-level meeting with Millat Tractors CEO Sikandar Mustafa. Federal Secretary Capt (r) Saif Anjum also attended.
Sikandar Mustafa highlighted that Millat Tractors has achieved 90% localization in tractor production and has developed export capacity, shipping tractors to international markets, showcasing the competitiveness of Pakistan’s engineering industry.
Haroon said the policy, being finalized under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s guidance, addresses sector challenges and provides a balanced, growth-oriented framework. He emphasized that the government aims to unlock the auto sector’s potential through enhanced local production and indigenization.
The Special Assistant directed the Engineering Development Board to consult all stakeholders to ensure the policy is inclusive and practical, supporting sustainable industrial development and export-led growth.
