NAB Karachi retrieves 43 acres of Pakistan Railways land worth Rs9.67 billion

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi has successfully recovered 43.11 acres of prime land belonging to Pakistan Railways, valued at Rs9.671 billion, marking a significant victory in safeguarding state assets.

The recovered property, located at Survey Numbers 48, 49, 50, and 51 in Deh Khanto Juma Goth, Karachi, had been subject to encroachment by private textile mills, according to the bureau. NAB’s investigation into the matter originally began on July 13, 2019, but was temporarily closed following a Supreme Court decision. The inquiry was formally resumed in 2025 at the request of Pakistan Railways, focusing on officials from the Railway and Revenue Departments and others involved in ongoing encroachment.

Although Pakistan Railways had asserted in 2021 that possession had been secured under Supreme Court orders, NAB’s investigation revealed that private textile mills continued to occupy the site. Following a detailed inquiry, NAB officers finalized the investigation and officially restored the land to Pakistan Railways.

The bureau described the retrieval as a major success, reflecting the dedication and diligence of its officers. By returning high-value government land to the public sector, NAB Karachi reinforced its reputation as a frontline institution combating the illegal occupation of state property.
