Government waives demurrage charges on auctioned containers at Karachi Port

Pakistan government has approved a waiver of demurrage charges on auctionable containers at Karachi Port Trust in coordination with private terminal operators, according to reports.

Under the arrangement, Karachi Port Trust will not charge demurrage on auctionable or auctioned containers provided they are cleared within seven days after the auction.

Officials said the measure is aimed at easing congestion at the port and facilitating faster clearance of containers handled by Customs.

Authorities stated that the move is expected to reduce delays caused by containers remaining stuck at the port while also creating space for transhipment cargo arriving in Karachi.

Officials said the waiver is part of efforts to improve cargo handling efficiency at the port through coordination with terminal operators.
