Pakistan plans global e-commerce platform to help SMEs reach international buyers

Pakistan plans to launch a digital marketplace to connect small and medium-sized enterprises with international buyers as part of efforts to expand exports and improve global market access for local businesses.

As per reports, the platform, being developed by the Ministry of Industries and Production, will allow Pakistani SMEs to display and sell products directly to customers abroad.

Officials said the portal will be designed along the lines of global e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, Alibaba and AliExpress, providing tools that enable businesses to market and deliver products to international buyers.

The initiative is part of the government’s strategy to digitise the SME sector and increase its role in export growth.

During a meeting reviewing digital initiatives for SMEs, officials discussed the development of the platform and measures to strengthen the sector’s participation in international trade.

The online portal is expected to serve as a central platform where buyers from overseas can explore Pakistani products, including goods from sectors such as gems and jewellery, automobiles and other SME industries.

Authorities have formed a working group to prepare a roadmap for launching the platform and ensuring that it meets international standards for accessibility and functionality.

Officials said the project aims to help Pakistani SMEs benefit from the expanding global e-commerce market and improve their visibility in cross-border trade.
